Octavia is a Chicago native now based in Grand Rapids. She’s a self-professed afro enthusiast who has worked in Chicago, Grand Rapids, Tennessee, and even New York. Octavia is a printmaker, illustrator, and graphic designer. Octavia’s print work is important because it’s a symbol of black excellence and of Black pride. Her illustration work is heavily driven by Black women and representing them in ways they’re not often seen; bright, colorful and in full-view. The underrepresentation of Black women and People of Color has been an issue in illustration that she is working to dismantle. Her printmaking work is influenced by her personal growth and experiences along with her passion for social justice issues. She works to make inspirational art that displays the intersectionality of her identity. Nature, growth and equality are frequent themes in her work. As she grow as a person, she tries to push hern art as well.
"I’m thankful to have been able to find what I love and what makes me happy. Nothing like being covered in ink and pulling something so clean and crisp from a carving block."
